Kapua Gutchen Senior, born Waiben (Thursday Island) 1954, continues traditional practices, including traditional Torres Strait Island song, dance, art and the creation of traditional instruments. The Gorr, also known as Kulup, is an essential instrument used for Torres Strait Island performances, including family and cultural celebrations. Kapua crafts wooden handles in the shape of an island drum that can be easily held and are decorated with traditional totems, plants, shells, cultural instruments and performing adornments.
